Mods (BepInEx + Thunderstore)

Mod loader, mod manager, common mods.

Valheim mods use BepInEx as the loader. Most players install via the Thunderstore mod manager (r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager).

Server side

For mods to work, both server AND client need them (most mods are client+server).

  1. Install BepInEx on the server: stop server → drop the BepInEx pack into /data/valheim/ → start (it'll create plugin folders).
  2. For each mod: drop the mod's .dll into /data/valheim/BepInEx/plugins/.
  3. Restart.

Easier: use a Thunderstore profile

The community workflow:

  1. Install r2modman (or Thunderstore Mod Manager) on your PC.
  2. Create a profile and install the mods you want client-side.
  3. Export the profile (gives you a code).
  4. On the server, use the same modlist — match each mod's .dll in /BepInEx/plugins/. Or upload the export and let our chat help you migrate it.

Common mods

  • Valheim Plus — broad tweaks (build piece snapping, stack size, etc.)
  • EpicLoot — adds rarity/affix loot system
  • PlantEverything — grow more crops
  • AutoFeed — animals feed themselves from nearby chests
  • Better Trader — more vendor items

Server-only mods (no client install)

Some mods only modify server-side behavior — ValheimRAFT, EpicValheim, etc. Read each mod's README; if it says "server-only," players don't need to install.

Performance after mods

Mods cost RAM. After installing a substantial pack, monitor RAM usage in the panel. If you're consistently above 90%, upgrade the tier.
